Amazon.com Inc. and artificial intelligence startup Anthropic announced a significant expansion of their strategic partnership on April 22, 2026. Under the terms of the new agreement, Anthropic has committed to spending more than $100 billion on Amazon Web Services (AWS) infrastructure over the next ten years. Simultaneously, Amazon will deepen its equity stake in the AI firm with an additional investment of up to $25 billion, building upon previous funding rounds and cementing a long-term technical collaboration.
The $100 billion commitment designates AWS as Anthropic’s primary cloud provider for the next decade. According to the official announcement, Anthropic will utilize AWS’s specialized AI chips, including the latest generations of Trainium and Inferentia, to train and deploy its future foundation models. This long-term infrastructure deal ensures Anthropic has the necessary compute capacity to scale its Claude family of models and conduct large-scale research. Matt Garman, CEO of AWS, stated that the collaboration is designed to accelerate the development of safe and reliable AI systems by leveraging Amazon’s global data center footprint and custom silicon.
Amazon’s $25 billion investment follows a series of previous capital injections into Anthropic that began in 2023. This new funding is expected to support Anthropic’s research and development efforts, as well as its international operational expansion. The deal structure reportedly includes both direct cash investments and credits for AWS services. Dario Amodei, CEO of Anthropic, noted that the expanded partnership provides the stability and resources required to push the boundaries of AI safety and performance. The investment reinforces Amazon’s position as a major stakeholder in the company while maintaining Anthropic’s independent corporate governance structure.
The agreement also includes provisions for expanded access to Anthropic’s models for AWS customers. Through Amazon Bedrock, a fully managed service that makes foundation models available via an API, enterprise clients will receive early access to new Anthropic features and specialized fine-tuning capabilities. Amazon confirmed that its own internal teams will continue to integrate Anthropic’s technology into various consumer and enterprise products, including Alexa and Amazon’s supply chain management tools.
This expansion marks one of the largest commercial agreements in the history of the cloud computing industry. Officials from both companies emphasized that the deal is focused on long-term infrastructure scaling rather than short-term product cycles. The partnership is governed by a multi-year roadmap that outlines specific milestones for hardware deployment and model training. Neither company disclosed the specific valuation of Anthropic following this latest investment round, though the capital infusion is among the largest ever recorded for a private AI firm.
