OpenAI officially expanded its service offerings on April 22, 2026, by introducing a new high-end subscription tier called ChatGPT Pro. Priced at $100 per month, the plan is specifically engineered to meet the demands of professional software engineers and data scientists. This new tier represents a significant step up from the existing $20 per month Plus plan and the $30 per month Team plan, targeting a segment of the market that requires higher computational resources and specialized coding capabilities.
The primary feature of the ChatGPT Pro tier is the integration of enhanced Codex capabilities. Subscribers receive unlimited, high-priority access to OpenAI’s most advanced code-generation models, which the company states have been optimized for complex multi-file repository management and real-time debugging. According to the official product release, the Pro tier provides a tenfold increase in rate limits compared to the Plus version and offers a 128k context window as the standard baseline for all interactions.
Alongside the new subscription tier, OpenAI launched the OpenAI Privacy Filter, a security-focused tool designed for both individual Pro users and enterprise clients. The Privacy Filter acts as an automated gateway that scans user prompts for sensitive information, including personally identifiable information, financial records, and proprietary source code snippets. When detected, the tool redacts or masks this data before the prompt is processed by the underlying large language model, ensuring that sensitive corporate or personal data is not stored in training logs or history. This functionality addresses long-standing concerns regarding data leakage in generative AI environments.
Chief Operating Officer Brad Lightcap stated that the introduction of these tools is a direct response to feedback from corporate partners who require more robust data governance and higher throughput for technical workflows. The Privacy Filter can be toggled on or off via the settings menu and includes customizable rulesets, allowing organizations to define specific categories of data that should be protected. This feature is intended to lower the barrier for adoption in highly regulated industries such as finance, healthcare, and legal services, where data sovereignty is a primary requirement for software integration.
The launch of ChatGPT Pro and the Privacy Filter coincides with an update to OpenAI’s API pricing structure for developers. While the Pro tier is a fixed-rate subscription for individual use, the company also announced that enterprise-level API users will have the option to integrate the Privacy Filter directly into their existing workflows for an additional fee based on token volume. These developments mark OpenAI’s continued effort to diversify its revenue streams and provide specialized tools for professional and industrial applications. The company confirmed that both features are available immediately to users in over 150 countries.
