Qualcomm Incorporated announced on April 24, 2026, that its Board of Directors has authorized a new $20 billion share repurchase program. The announcement coincided with a series of strategic updates regarding the company’s expansion into AI-enabled personal computers and automotive technology, as well as a confirmed partnership for the upcoming Samsung Galaxy S27 smartphone series. Shares of the San Diego-based semiconductor giant saw upward movement during the trading session following the release of these details.
Chief Executive Officer Cristiano Amon characterized the $20 billion buyback as a reflection of the company’s financial strength and its successful transition into a diversified chipmaker. The new authorization replaces the company’s existing repurchase plan and has no fixed expiration date. According to Chief Financial Officer Akash Palkhiwala, the program will be executed through open-market purchases and private transactions, funded primarily by the company’s cash reserves and future cash flow from operations.
In the computing sector, Qualcomm provided data on the adoption of its Snapdragon X Elite and X Plus processors. The company reported that its AI PC platform has now been integrated into more than 50 distinct laptop models from global manufacturers including Dell, HP, Lenovo, and Asus. Qualcomm’s entry into the PC market is centered on its custom Oryon CPU and a dedicated Neural Processing Unit (NPU) capable of 45 TOPS (Tera Operations Per Second), which the company states is essential for running next-generation generative AI applications locally on Windows devices.
The automotive division also reached a significant milestone, with Qualcomm reporting that its Snapdragon Digital Chassis design-win pipeline has reached $45 billion. This represents a $15 billion increase from previous disclosures. The company highlighted new agreements with several European and Chinese automakers to supply integrated cockpit systems and automated driving technologies. Revenue from the automotive segment is now a primary driver of Qualcomm’s non-handset growth, as vehicles increasingly require high-performance computing for infotainment and safety features.
Furthermore, Qualcomm confirmed it has reached an agreement with Samsung Electronics to supply Snapdragon mobile platforms for the Samsung Galaxy S27 series. This multi-year deal ensures that Qualcomm’s flagship processors will be used in Samsung’s premium smartphones globally. The partnership includes a specific focus on Galaxy AI, with both companies collaborating to optimize on-device AI performance. This agreement follows a long-standing relationship between the two firms and solidifies Qualcomm’s position in the high-end mobile market through the 2027 product cycle.
