Toyota Motor Corporation and Woven by Toyota (WbyT) announced a suite of new artificial intelligence technologies on April 22, 2026, designed to accelerate innovation within Woven City. The primary development is the unveiling of the Woven City AI Vision Engine, a large-scale AI foundation model categorized as a leading Vision Language Model (VLM). This engine is engineered to process visual, behavioral, and environmental data in real time from sources such as camera feeds, mobility systems, and user inputs to identify patterns and potential risks across the city's infrastructure.

The AI Vision Engine serves as the technical core for the Woven City Integrated ANZEN System. This safety framework combines the vision engine with Woven City Behavior AI, which interprets and predicts human behavioral patterns, and Woven City Drive Sync Assist, which provides driving assistance based on real-time environmental conditions. By analyzing data from vehicles and traffic signals, the system coordinates movement between pedestrians and mobility technologies to operate as a single synchronized system. Toyota officials stated that the goal is to enhance safety both on and off the road through predictive analysis.

In addition to safety systems, the companies introduced two new data infrastructure components: the Woven City Infra Hub and the Woven City Data Fabric. The Infra Hub acts as an integrated data platform that unifies information across the city, while the Data Fabric provides a management framework to facilitate data utilization while maintaining individual privacy preferences. Technical demonstrations also showcased an AI Agent that monitors driver psychological states and fatigue levels via in-car cameras, and Akio Toyoda AI, a conversational model trained on the thought patterns and voice of Toyota’s Chairman to support goal-driven collaboration.

The event also marked the expansion of the Inventor community at Woven City, located in Susono, Shizuoka Prefecture. Four new partners—the AI Robot Association (AIRoA), DAIICHIKOSHO CO., LTD., Joby Aviation, Inc., and Toyota Financial Services Corporation—have joined the project, bringing the total number of Inventors to 24. These partners are now operating out of the Woven City Inventor Garage, a development hub featuring a Maker Space and Inventor Field. Current proof-of-concept projects include a collaboration with UCC Japan Co., Ltd. and an AI-powered Selection-Free Karaoke system from Daiichikosho that automatically generates playlists based on user preferences.

These developments are part of the Kakezan (multiplication) strategy, which aims to combine Toyota’s mass-production expertise with WbyT’s software capabilities and partner innovations. Woven City, which officially launched in September 2025, continues to function as a real-world laboratory for these technologies. Toyota and WbyT confirmed plans to eventually deploy the AI Vision Engine and its associated systems in applications beyond the Woven City environment.
