The renovation process involves significant structural and technological upgrades. According to official statements from Amazon, the facility will be outfitted with the latest generation of Amazon Robotics technology, designed to assist employees in picking, packing, and shipping smaller customer items such as books, electronics, and household goods. The conversion is expected to significantly increase the storage density of the site and improve the speed of delivery for customers in the South Florida metropolitan area. By integrating advanced sorting systems and automated guided vehicles, the company aims to optimize the workflow from the moment an item is received to the moment it is loaded onto a delivery vehicle.
Approximately 1,000 employees currently working at the Homestead location will be impacted by the temporary closure. Amazon has confirmed that all affected workers will be offered the opportunity to transfer to nearby facilities. The company operates several other logistics sites in the region, including fulfillment centers in Miami and Opa-locka, as well as various delivery stations. For employees who choose to transfer, Amazon stated it will maintain their current pay rates and benefits. The decision to upgrade the Homestead site follows a period of strategic refinement for Amazon’s physical footprint.
