Walmart Inc. officially unveiled its newly remodeled Supercenter and a brand-new in-store pharmacy in Keene, New Hampshire, on April 24, 2026. The grand opening at the Riverside Plaza location on Winchester Street followed months of construction and serves as a centerpiece of the retailer’s broader investment strategy in the New England region. A ribbon-cutting ceremony held Friday morning marked the completion of the project, which aims to address local healthcare gaps and modernize the physical shopping experience through the company’s Store of the Future framework.
The addition of the full-service pharmacy is a strategic response to shifting market conditions in the Monadnock Region. Following several regional pharmacy closures in 2025—including a Rite Aid previously located in the same plaza—Walmart accelerated plans to establish a health and wellness hub within the Keene store. The new facility offers a comprehensive suite of services, including prescription fulfillment, immunizations, and personalized medication counseling. Pharmacy Manager Kaitlin Latta noted during the ceremony that the expansion allows the company to maintain community access to essential clinical services at a time when industry-wide closures have limited local options. The pharmacy also supports same-day delivery for eligible prescriptions, integrating healthcare into Walmart’s existing delivery infrastructure.
The store-wide renovation introduced significant structural and technological upgrades designed to streamline omnichannel shopping. Customers will encounter a redesigned layout featuring wider aisles, updated flooring, and enhanced lighting. The electronics, apparel, and home goods departments have been expanded to include activated corners, which utilize interactive displays to showcase a wider variety of products, including elevated brands such as De’Longhi and Oura. Digital integration is a key component of the remodel, with new QR codes and digital touchpoints placed throughout the store. These tools allow shoppers to browse Walmart’s extended online assortment and check prices in real-time using the Walmart mobile application.
Operational efficiency was also a priority in the redesign. The store’s Pickup and Delivery department underwent a significant expansion to manage the increasing volume of online orders. This includes a dedicated staging area for associates and a streamlined exterior pickup point, facilitating delivery in as little as one hour for many items. According to company officials, the Keene project is part of a 2026 statewide initiative to remodel nine stores across New Hampshire. This multi-million dollar investment is intended to support local economic growth by creating construction jobs and long-term roles in retail and pharmacy leadership. In conjunction with the reopening, Walmart reaffirmed its community commitment by awarding grants to local nonprofit organizations, continuing its tradition of supporting regional public safety and hunger relief efforts.
