Salesforce officially launched Headless 360 on April 18, 2026, marking a significant architectural shift that enables its entire platform to be utilized by autonomous AI agents. The new offering allows the Salesforce Customer 360 suite—including Sales, Service, Marketing, and Commerce clouds—to function as a set of callable services via Application Programming Interfaces (APIs), the Model Context Protocol (MCP), and Command Line Interface (CLI) tools. This transition is designed to provide AI coding agents with live, programmatic access to customer data, business logic, and established governance structures.

The introduction of Headless 360 addresses the growing demand for agentic workflows, where AI systems perform multi-step tasks independently rather than simply responding to prompts. By exposing the platform's underlying capabilities as modular tools, Salesforce enables developers to integrate AI agents directly into enterprise environments. These agents can now execute complex operations, such as modifying lead scoring parameters, updating inventory levels across multiple regions, or orchestrating customer service resolutions, without requiring a human operator to navigate the standard Salesforce graphical user interface.

A core component of the launch is the integration of the Model Context Protocol (MCP), an open standard that allows AI models to connect with external data sources and tools. By adopting MCP, Salesforce ensures that Headless 360 is compatible with a wide range of large language models and agent frameworks. This interoperability allows third-party AI agents to securely query Salesforce metadata and trigger workflows while maintaining the integrity of the data.

Marc Benioff, Chair and CEO of Salesforce, described the launch as a foundational step in the company’s transition toward an agent-first architecture. Benioff noted that Headless 360 provides the necessary infrastructure for the next generation of enterprise software, where autonomous agents act as a primary interface for business operations. He emphasized that the platform maintains strict adherence to the Einstein Trust Layer, a security framework that masks personally identifiable information and ensures that agentic actions comply with corporate data residency and privacy regulations.

The Headless 360 rollout includes comprehensive documentation for developers and a new suite of CLI tools specifically optimized for agentic integration. Salesforce confirmed that the service is available immediately to customers on Enterprise and Unlimited editions. The company also announced that it has partnered with several leading AI development firms to create pre-built agent templates that leverage the Headless 360 APIs. These templates are intended to accelerate the deployment of agents in specialized sectors such as financial services and healthcare, where data governance and workflow automation are critical.
